Are You Suffering from Carpal Tunnel Pain?

Find out how Atlanta Hand Specialist can help!

If you’re suffering from carpal tunnel pain, don’t hesitate to call Atlanta Hand Specialist. Dr. Patel, our board certified general surgeon and hand surgeon utilizes the latest techniques to help patients relieve pain and get back to activities they love.

Carpal tunnel pain is caused by increased pressure on the median nerve at the wrist. There space in the wrist called the carpal tunnel is where the median nerve and nine tendons pass from the forearm and into the hand. Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when swelling builds in the tunnel and puts pressure on the nerve.

In addition to carpal tunnel pain, you may experience:

  • Numbness
  • Tingling
  • Pain in the arm, hand, and fingers

Before receiving treatment for carpal tunnel pain, Dr. Patel will take a detailed history of how your hands have been used and whether you experienced any prior injuries. He may also take an x-ray to check for other causes of pain such as arthritis or a fracture.

Often, it’s possible to relieve carpal tunnel pain without surgery. Identifying and treating medical conditions, changing the patterns of hand use, or keeping the wrist splinted in a straight position may alleviate the pressure on the nerve.

If symptoms do not improve, surgery may be necessary to treat carpal tunnel pain. Dr. Patel can decrease the pressure on the nerve by cutting the ligament that forms the top of the tunnel on the palm side of the hand. The enlarged tunnel should decrease the pressure on the nerve and ease your pain.

You don’t have to continue living with carpal tunnel pain. Call (770) 333-7888 to make an appointment with Atlanta Hand Specialist. We have offices in Smyrna, Douglasville, and Marietta.
